Intoxicated Teenage Driver Hits and Kills Two-Year-Old Boy in Front of His Home in Oak Bend, Florida, Leading to DUI Manslaughter Charge

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 19-year-old from Florida has been arrested after a tragic accident involving a two-year-old boy.

The incident occurred on Labor Day in the Oak Bend neighborhood, where Joshua Montero, while intoxicated, struck and killed little Asher Lepping as the boy was riding his tricycle.

Details of the Accident

The arrest report reveals that Asher, who was riding his blue tricycle with his sister in front of their home, was hit by a speeding silver Toyota Tacoma.

Despite the desperate cries from Asher’s parents, Krysten and Danny, for the truck to slow down, the vehicle continued on its path.

After hitting the child, the truck reportedly dragged both Asher and his tricycle for several feet before coming to a stop.

Emergency Response

Witnesses quickly came to the scene and performed CPR on the young boy until emergency responders arrived.

Asher was rushed to Advent Health Waterman, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

Suspected DUI

When officers arrived, they noted that Montero appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

His eyes were described as red and glassy, and he was only wearing a bathing suit without shoes or a shirt.

According to a Facebook post by the Tavares Police Department, Montero voluntarily underwent field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer, which confirmed his intoxication.

Investigation and Charges

Following the incident, police informed Montero that his charges would be upgraded to DUI manslaughter.

The Oak Bend neighborhood, known for its family-friendly atmosphere, is described as a gated community with a short, dead-end street where residents felt safe allowing their children to play.

Witnesses reported that the truck was driving recklessly and speeding before the accident.

Community Support

In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by a neighbor to support the Lepping family.

The campaign has raised over $9,000 of its $12,000 goal.

Montero is scheduled for a court date later this month as the investigation continues.
