South Africa’s top 10 hijacking hotspots, in case you missed them

According to Police Minister Bheki Cele, who presented crime statistics on Friday, 18 August, hijackings dropped by 6.4% in the first quarter of the 2023/24 fiscal year.

This year, there have been 5,488 carjackings, compared to 5,866 at the same time period in 2022.

STEALING SOUTH AFRICAN HOTSPOTS
Since the beginning of 2023, there has been a marked drop in the number of recorded hijackings, as compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

From April to June of 2023, 100 occurrences of hijacking were reported; this is an increase of 16 cases from the same period last year and the highest total for any location in the Western Cape. With 90 hijackings reported, Olievenhoutbosch in Gauteng has the second-highest total in the country, 33 more than in the corresponding period in 2022.
