In a heartbreaking incident that has shaken a community in São Paulo, Brazil, a husband watched in horror as his wife tragically fell to her death in an elevator.
This devastating scene was captured on the building’s security cameras, revealing the moments leading up to the fatal accident involving 45-year-old Adriana Maria de Jesus.
She was on her way to work when the incident occurred at the Santo Andre Building, where her husband, Gildelio Alves do Santos, serves as the concierge.
Disturbing Footage Revealed
The chilling footage, released by local media on October 9, begins with Adriana entering the elevator on the fifth floor.
As the lift ascends two floors, two men join her. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse.
After reaching the seventh floor, the elevator unexpectedly plummets back down, entering a state of free-fall that ultimately leads to a catastrophic crash on the ground floor.
Adriana can be seen raising her hands in fear before the screen fills with dust and debris as the lift collides with the ground.
The Heartbreak of a Husband
Gildelio witnessed this nightmare unfold on his security monitor.
He recalled, “I watched the monitor screen and saw my wife going up, and everything was normal.
When it came down, I was horrified.” The impact of this tragedy has left him devastated, struggling to cope with the loss.
“My heart is broken. I have to find the strength to work and to get on with life because I have to work,” he shared.
Despite being rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, Adriana succumbed to her wounds a week later, on August 13.
The two men in the elevator, aged 63 and 27, survived the fall and were discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.
A Love Story Cut Short
Adriana and Gildelio’s love story is one of sweet reunions.
They had been childhood sweethearts who found their way back to each other after 28 years apart, enjoying six beautiful years of marriage together.
Gildelio reflected on their relationship, saying, “We met again and had the chance to live this childhood love.”
Investigation Underway
The elevator in which the tragic accident occurred has been in operation for over 60 years, dating back to the building’s construction.
In response to the incident, the São Paulo Department of Public Security is treating the case as a suspicious death and is actively investigating.
A spokesperson stated, “We are seeking evidence and listening to witnesses in order to clarify the facts.”
Meanwhile, Atlas Schindler, the company responsible for the elevator’s maintenance, has stated it is cooperating with the investigation and has encouraged the building’s owners to consider upgrading the aging lift.
