Chippa United’s head coach, Kwanele Kopo, recently shared some insights into Aphelele Teto’s progress since his arrival at the club.
This update comes after Teto’s challenging stint with Scottish side Livingston FC.
Teto’s Move to Chippa United
Before the start of the eagerly awaited 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, Teto made a switch to Chippa United on a season-long loan from Livingston.
His time with Livingston was unfortunately marked by difficulties, primarily due to issues with securing a work permit, which prevented him from making any appearances for the team.
Teto originally joined Livingston from TS Galaxy at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
However, his tenure there was not smooth; he had a falling out with the coach, Sead Ramovic, who criticized his work ethic.
Despite this, Teto had shown promise at TS Galaxy, where he was promoted from their DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side to the senior team in the 2021/22 season.
During his time with Galaxy, he played 19 matches and provided two assists.
Chippa United’s Excitement for Teto
Joining Chippa United, Teto is now part of a squad that includes players like Andile Jali, Boy Madingwane, Giovanni Philander, Thobani Jacobs, Sifiso Mazibuko, Blessing Jali, Gadinkame Modise, Azola Matrose, and Xolani Sithole.
Kwanele Kopo is enthusiastic about what Teto brings to the team.
He acknowledges the challenges Teto faced with his work permit and expresses excitement about his potential impact.
“Teto is a player with a lot of potential,” Kopo said.
“Although he struggled with his work permit issues due to his national team commitments, we were thrilled to bring him back when the chance arose.
He’s an incredibly dynamic and forward-thinking player.”
Kopo also noted that Teto’s time with TS Galaxy has helped him grow, though there is still room for improvement in his tactical understanding of the game.
Despite this, Kopo is optimistic about Teto’s future contributions to Chippa United.
What’s Next for Aphelele Teto?
Kopo mentioned that Teto will play a significant role in the first team this season and expressed confidence in his abilities, particularly after impressive performances in pre-season matches against SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs.
“We’re excited about what Aphelele will bring to the team and to the people of the Eastern Cape,” Kopo added.
As Teto settles into his new role with Chippa United, fans are eager to see how he will showcase his talents in the upcoming season.
