Certificate Name Discrepancy
The presidency has issued a response to the recent revelations regarding the name on Atiku Abubakar’s secondary school certificate, which was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The certificate reportedly bears the name “Sadiq Abubakar,” in contrast to the widely recognized name “Atiku Abubakar.”
Presidential Aide’s Remarks
Temitope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, expressed skepticism regarding Atiku’s academic background inquiries in the United States.
Ajayi questioned why Atiku is focused on seeking details about Tinubu’s academic history from Chicago State University while facing uncertainties about his own name in Nigeria.
Irony and Explanation
Ajayi pointed out the irony in Atiku’s stance, highlighting that Atiku expects Nigerians to accept the affidavit he submitted regarding his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) certificate.
However, Atiku simultaneously seems to reject the idea that Tinubu should enjoy the same privilege of presenting his own case.
Atiku’s Explanation
In response to the allegations of name inconsistency on his SSCE certificate, Atiku clarified that he used the name “Sadiq Abubakar” for his WAEC exam.
After passing the exam, he swore an affidavit to affirm that “Sadiq Abubakar” and “Atiku Abubakar” are the same person.
Atiku elaborated on his educational and professional history, emphasizing that he used the name “Atiku Abubakar” for various purposes, including his university education and employment.
The recent controversy surrounding Atiku Abubakar’s school certificate and the ensuing explanations have sparked a discussion about the use of different names in official documents and affidavits.
The presidency’s response underscores the significance of transparency in the political arena, particularly in an election year.
