Gunmen assault and rob Musina United players inside their Limpopo clubhouse as they watch UEFA Champions League match

A terrifying incident shook the players of Musina United, a club from the SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League, as they were robbed at gunpoint at their clubhouse.

This shocking event unfolded late Wednesday night while the players were relaxing and watching a UEFA Champions League match.

Gunmen Storm the Clubhouse

Around 11 PM, two armed men broke into the Musina United clubhouse.

The players were taken by surprise and quickly forced to lie down as the assailants took control of the situation.

During the ordeal, two players were assaulted with the gun, though thankfully, they were not seriously harmed.

The robbers made off with 13 phones and a significant, yet undisclosed, amount of cash.

Authorities in Limpopo have since been alerted, and the police are currently investigating the crime.

Players Struggle to Cope with Trauma

The emotional toll on the team has been severe.

“The boys are traumatized, deeply traumatized,” explained team manager Clement Mabidi during an interview with FARPost.

Many of the players are from provinces such as the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, and this incident has left them struggling to cope.

Mabidi recounted that one of the players shared a chilling detail: the criminals removed the magazine from their gun and displayed the bullets as a form of intimidation.

Such moments have deeply scarred the young men, leaving them unable to eat or sleep properly.

In response, the club has arranged professional counseling to help the team recover from the incident.

Focus Shifts Back to the New Season

Despite the harrowing experience, Musina United is pushing forward, preparing for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

They are scheduled to kick off with a home match against White Vultures on Saturday, 12 October.

Although the robbery has disrupted their routine, Mabidi remains optimistic.

“We took the boys out of Musina after the incident to help them recover,” he shared.

“Our preparations are still on track. We’ve brought in new players and set up a fresh structure.

The community is fully behind us, and despite everything, we’re confident in our chances this season.”

The club, determined to move past this ordeal, remains focused on their goal of securing promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
