Former Royal AM midfielder Lantshene Phalane re-signs with Baroka FC as club aims for top-tier football return

After spending months without a club, Lantshene Phalane has secured a fresh start by signing a one-year contract with Baroka FC.

The veteran midfielder has been out of action since his departure from the now-defunct Moroka Swallows at the end of the previous season.

At 34, Phalane returns to familiar territory, having started his professional football journey at Baroka in 2020.

A Career Full of Highlights

Phalane’s career has seen him contribute to several teams, including Platinum Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic, and Royal AM.

A standout moment in his time with Baroka was being part of the squad that famously defeated Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals, under coach Sello Chokoe, at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

His return brings a wealth of experience to the squad as they aim to make a significant push in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Baroka Strengthens with Experience

Baroka FC has been busy bolstering its squad with seasoned players, and Phalane’s arrival is a key part of that strategy.

He joins other recent signings, such as Siphelele Mthembu and Given Mashikinya, who are also expected to bring leadership and expertise to the team.

The club officially confirmed Phalane’s signing on Thursday, with executive manager Richard Mashabane expressing confidence in his abilities after the midfielder had been training with the team for two weeks.

“We couldn’t take the risk of not signing him,” Mashabane told FARPost.

“He’s been looking sharp, and we needed to add experience to the squad. Our goal is not just to reach the playoffs; we’re aiming for automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership.”

Baroka’s Focus on Promotion

Baroka’s ambitions for the current season are clear.

The team, driven by the vision of chairman Khurishi Mphahlele, is focused on returning to the top tier of South African football.

The additions of experienced players like Phalane, Mashikinya, Makume, and Gebhardt reflect the club’s determination to achieve automatic promotion rather than settle for playoff contention.

Upcoming Clash Against Pretoria Callies

Baroka FC will face Pretoria Callies on Saturday, October 26, in what promises to be an exciting league encounter.

While Phalane has impressed during training, his participation in the match will ultimately be up to the coach.

“He’s been looking fit and sharp, but the final decision lies with the technical team,” Mashabane added.

The club is also calling on fans to show their support in numbers as Baroka continues its push for success.

What’s next for Phalane? Fans will be watching closely as the veteran midfielder aims to make a significant impact in Baroka’s quest for promotion.
