Troy Deeney, the former Premier League striker known for his time at Watford, recently shared a jaw-dropping story about a £250,000 bonus he spent in just three days while partying in Las Vegas.
Deeney, who found the net 140 times in 419 appearances for Watford, vividly recalled this extravagant spree during his appearance on the Undr the Cosh podcast.
A Promise to Friends
Back in 2015, after Watford secured promotion to the Premier League as Championship runners-up, Deeney made a promise to his friends.
He vowed to treat them to an unforgettable trip to Las Vegas with his promotion bonus.
“I did a quarter of a mill in three and a half days,” he reminisced.
Deeney humorously reflected on his spending habits, admitting that while he would love to say the money went to gambling, the reality was much wilder.
The group blew £80,000 at a pool party and another £80,000 at the MGM in the morning, followed by £60,000 in the evening.
An Ego Boost Gone Wild
With the cash flowing and a taste of success, Deeney’s ego took over.
“In my head, I wasn’t getting this money anyway because I made the deal with my pals,” he explained.
He described a moment when he noticed a nearby table of footballers on a stag do ordering drinks, prompting him to up the ante.
“They think they can fing mug me off; I’ve just got to the Prem,” he recalled, leading him to shout, “come here, I’ll have 20!” Deeney candidly admitted, “It was all ego; I was an a**hole of the highest order.”
A Memorable Encounter
During one memorable night, Deeney’s group of friends was joined by a “hen do of 15 Canadians,” which turned out to be a group of Victoria’s Secret models.
As the night unfolded, one model asked him if he was famous, to which he modestly replied, “nah, nah, I’m not famous; I just don’t like pictures.”
The model then revealed, “just so you are aware, all of us are Victoria’s Secret models.”
Deeney couldn’t help but express his disbelief, saying, “thank you, Jesus, I am in heaven now.”
Despite the star-studded company, he humorously admitted to drinking so much that he ended up getting carted off in a taxi.
Life After Watford
After an impressive 11-year tenure at Watford, which ended in 2021, Deeney returned to his hometown and joined Birmingham City for two seasons.
He later signed with Forest Green Rovers and took on a brief role as player-manager.
Nowadays, he’s found a new passion in punditry, sharing his insights on football with fans.
Troy Deeney’s unforgettable Vegas experience is a reminder of the wild adventures that come with success in the world of sports, leaving us to wonder what he might do with a similar bonus today.
