…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. Former Minister of State for Employment, Festus Keyamo, who also served as the spokesperson for Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, has appeared at the premises of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
His presence is in defense of President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election held on February 25th.
Today marked Keyamo’s first appearance in court regarding the tribunal hearings.
Opposition Parties Challenge Tinubu’s Victory at the Tribunal
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, and others, has approached the tribunal to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s victory.
Their claim is based on substantial non-compliance with constitutional provisions, the Electoral Act, and the guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the election.
Atiku, a former vice president, has presented his petition on five grounds and is requesting the court to order a fresh election due to alleged irregularities at polling units during the presidential poll.
Obi Alleges Irregularities in the Election
Peter Obi, on the other hand, has raised allegations of various irregularities in the conduct of the election.
He insists that both Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, were not qualified to contest the presidency.
These claims add to the mounting legal challenges faced by President Tinubu’s victory, as the opposition parties seek to upturn the election results through the tribunal process.
