Former Kaizer Chiefs Striker Samir Nurkovic makes his return to Gauteng football as he signs a crucial deal with SuperSport United following his departure from TS Galaxy

After leaving TS Galaxy, former Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic is about to start a fresh journey with a new club in the Betway Premiership.

The Serbian forward has been in the South African football scene for years and now finds himself landing a deal with SuperSport United in Gauteng.

SuperSport United Seals the Deal

Following his exit from TS Galaxy, Nurkovic has agreed to join SuperSport United, where he will fill the gap left by Bradley Grobler, who is out with a long-term injury.

This move positions Nurkovic as the club’s go-to experienced striker, ensuring they remain competitive in the PSL.

A source close to the situation revealed, “SuperSport urgently needed a reliable striker, and when Samir became available, they saw an opportunity to strengthen the squad.

With Grobler sidelined, they wanted someone who understands the league, and Samir fits the bill perfectly.”

Nurkovic is expected to sign a one-year contract, with an option to extend for another year, potentially keeping him with the club until 2026.

Becoming a Naturalized South African

SuperSport United is reportedly working on registering Nurkovic as a local player, as he now qualifies for South African naturalization after being in the country for over five years.

This move would free up a valuable foreign player spot on the team, giving them flexibility ahead of the January transfer window.

A Familiar Face in the Betway Premiership

Nurkovic has extensive experience in the Betway Premiership, first making his mark with Kaizer Chiefs in 2019.

During his time there, he quickly became a fan favorite, especially after his standout 2019-2020 season where he scored 13 goals and provided six assists in just 26 league matches.

His presence in the league is well established, and SuperSport United will undoubtedly benefit from his experience.

The Royal AM Debt Saga

While Nurkovic looks ahead to his future with SuperSport, there are still unresolved issues from his time with Royal AM.

The club, based in Pietermaritzburg, owes him R12 million after they terminated his contract just three months after signing him in 2022.

FIFA has since ruled that Royal AM must pay him the full amount owed under his two-year contract, including interest.

This financial dispute with Royal AM adds to the club’s growing issues, including a significant tax debt with SARS.

For Nurkovic, it’s a chapter he hopes to close soon, as he focuses on his new venture in Gauteng.

What’s Next for Nurkovic?

With his arrival at SuperSport United imminent, all eyes will be on Samir Nurkovic as he steps into a crucial role for the team.

If his past performance is anything to go by, SuperSport fans can expect the Serbian striker to make a significant impact in the upcoming season.
