Former Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat has made his way back to South Africa for the first time since he left for his home country of Zimbabwe.
This return marks a significant moment for the talented attacker, who hasn’t been in the country since he signed with Yadah SC back in February 2024.
Transitioning from Kaizer Chiefs to Yadah SC
Billiat’s journey back to Zimbabwe came after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs, a club where he made a significant impact during his tenure.
Initially, he had hoped to continue his career within the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), attempting to secure a new position after leaving the Chiefs.
However, his efforts to join SuperSport United didn’t pan out, leaving him without a new contract in the PSL.
A Comeback on the International Stage
Fast forward to August 2024, and Billiat is making headlines again as he has come out of retirement at the international level.
He is now back with the Zimbabwe national team, the Warriors, who are gearing up for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches.
The team has been diligently training at Wits in preparation for their upcoming fixtures, which include a clash against Namibia at Orlando Stadium today and again next week.
Expressing Gratitude and Excitement
In a conversation with The Herald, Billiat couldn’t hide his excitement about being back in South Africa.
He expressed his gratitude toward Yadah chairman Prophet Walter Magaya, who played a vital role in his return to football.
“I am thrilled with this opportunity and to be back in South Africa, a place where I enjoyed a significant portion of my playing career,” he shared.
“I owe a lot to Prophet Magaya for giving me another shot at Yadah, where I’ve been able to reignite my passion for the game and even return from international retirement.”
Billiat highlighted how Magaya’s leadership inspired him to work harder, ultimately leading to his comeback with the national team.
“It was his support that encouraged me to come back, and I’m grateful to be back in the fold again,” he said.
With Billiat back in action, fans will be eager to see how his presence impacts the Warriors in their upcoming matches.
