Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has spoken out following his unexpected move from the Soweto giants to AmaZulu FC.
Zwane, affectionately known as ‘10111,’ is now set to begin a new chapter in his coaching career, but this time with a different team.
His departure from Amakhosi comes after a remarkable 24-year stint, and his new role will be as co-coach for AmaZulu FC.
Zwane Takes on New Role at AmaZulu FC
AmaZulu FC recently made the official announcement confirming Zwane’s appointment as co-coach, alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi.
The two coaches will be stepping in to fill the shoes of Pablo Franco Martin and Aitor Van Den Brule, both of whom were sacked due to poor performance.
Usuthu, AmaZulu’s nickname, has had a challenging start to the 2024/25 season, having lost all three of their opening league matches.
This leaves them at the bottom of the Betway Premiership table, putting added pressure on Zwane and Vilakazi to turn things around.
Gratitude for His Time at Kaizer Chiefs
Reflecting on his long-standing tenure at Kaizer Chiefs, Zwane expressed his heartfelt thanks to the club and its leadership for the opportunities they gave him over the years.
He particularly acknowledged Dr. Kaizer Motaung, the club’s chairman, for the continuous support and guidance he received.
“I have immense gratitude for Dr. Motaung and the entire Kaizer Chiefs organization for believing in me throughout my journey, both as a player and a coach,” Zwane shared.
“From the start, their trust in my abilities allowed me to transition from a player to a development coach, and finally, to the head coach.”
He continued by stating how the experience shaped not just his coaching career but his life as a whole.
“I am truly thankful for all the opportunities the club has given me, and I will always appreciate everything they’ve done.”
Zwane’s Coaching Journey at Kaizer Chiefs
Zwane’s coaching career at Kaizer Chiefs started in 2010 when he served as an assistant to Vladimir Vermezovic.
By 2012, he had transitioned into the development ranks of the club, where he played a key role in shaping future stars.
His return to the first team came in 2020, where he worked under prominent coaches such as Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter, and Molefi Ntseki.
In June 2022, Zwane was finally given the role of head coach, a decision that was largely driven by the club’s fanbase, who had high hopes that he could restore the team’s former glory.
Now, with his move to AmaZulu, the spotlight shifts to how he will fare in this new challenge.
What Lies Ahead for Zwane and AmaZulu?
As Zwane embarks on this new journey with AmaZulu FC, the task ahead is far from easy.
With the club struggling at the bottom of the league table, all eyes will be on how he and Vilakazi can steer the team in the right direction.
