Former Black Leopards Striker Rodney Ramagalela Confidently Claims Club Is Poised for Return to South African Premier League After Years of Struggles in Lower Divisions

A former striker for the Black Leopards has shared some encouraging thoughts about the club’s potential to reclaim its spot in South Africa’s elite league.

After facing several tough years in the second tier, the club may finally be finding its footing again.

A Brief History of Struggles

Once a competitive team in the South African top-flight, the Leopards have faced a steep decline in recent years.

They were relegated from the Betway Premiership in the 2020/21 season, and since then, the Limpopo-based club has struggled to regain its form in the lower divisions.

Fans have been particularly concerned about the team’s recurring issues, highlighted by three relegations in the 2007/08, 2012/13, and 2020/21 seasons.

The club hit a new low during the 2022/23 season when they were demoted to the ABC Motsepe League for the first time in 22 years.

However, in a strategic move, the Leopards managed to return to professional football by acquiring the status of All Stars FC.

Signs of Improvement

Despite a rocky previous season, Leopards appear to be on the upswing in the current campaign.

With three wins, two draws, and just one loss in their first six matches, they are currently sitting in fifth place on the log.

This promising start suggests the team may be poised to regain its place in the top-flight league.

Insights from Rodney Ramagalela

Rodney Ramagalela, a retired striker and former player for Black Leopards, believes the club has what it takes to earn promotion back to the Betway Premiership this season.

He sees a real opportunity for them to contend for the league title or at least qualify for the playoffs.

Ramagalela noted, “For me, it comes down to the players; they have shown they can perform.

Winning three games, drawing two, and only losing one is a solid start.”

He praised the contributions of head coach Maxwell Konadu, stating that he has implemented effective strategies that are evident in the players’ commitment and discipline.

“The team knows what it takes to get promoted. Even if they don’t win the league, I can definitely see them competing in the [PSL Promotional/Relegation] playoffs,” he added.

With this kind of momentum, the Black Leopards seem to be heading in the right direction.

What lies ahead for them could be a thrilling journey back to the top!
