ActionSA, a political party founded on August 29, 2020 from a live studio broadcast in the midst of a COVID-19 lockdown, is celebrating its third birthday today, Tuesday, August 29.
According to party president Herman Mashaba, ActionSA is on a rapid growth trajectory toward the 2024 national and provincial elections as a result of this exceptional atmosphere. The organization has already established itself in all nine provinces and competed in its first local government election.
“Out of the 278 municipalities nationwide, only 6 were contested by ActionSA in the party’s inaugural elections. Despite this, the party received 2.37% of the national vote, making it the 6th largest party in South Africa.

“Importantly, ActionSA achieved equal levels of support throughout townships, suburbs, informal settlements, and CBDs, emerging as the most varied political party in South Africa at the grassroots level of its support. Because South Africa needs a really diversified political space that unites all South Africans, the party embraces this aspect of our party, Mashaba remarked.
Since 2021, the party has run in a number of by-elections to show its trajectory of continued development, including:
ActionSA saw a rise in support from 6% to 22% in Pretoria’s rural north, and from 11% to 23% on the fringes of Soweto.
Most recently, ActionSA increased from 5% to 15% in Ennerdale and Finetown, garnering 25% support in formerly ANC voting areas.
ActionSA has gained support outside of Gauteng, obtaining 8% of the vote in Kwanobuhle in the Eastern Cape, 9% in Moletjie in Limpopo, and 11% in Kwanongoma in rural KZN.

The party’s president emphasized that since the elections in 2021, the party has developed institutions in all 9 provinces, led by capable Provincial Chairpersons who have done the same in all of their provinces’ districts. The party currently has more than 225 000 members and branches operating in 30 percent of South Africa’s 4468 wards.
“ActionSA doubles down on our commitment to becoming the political alternative that so many South Africans are sorely seeking as it celebrates three years of proud service to the country’s people. We pledge to visit more cities and villages and provide our exclusive deal to more South Africans on fresh street corners all throughout our nation, added Mashaba.
