Imagine the shock of discovering a driver who’s not just over the legal limit, but three times beyond it, with his two kids in the car.
That’s exactly what happened in Peterborough last month.
The Arrest
On the evening of August 24, Prince Siziba, a 32-year-old father of three, was pulled over in his Toyota Corolla on Oundle Road.
A concerned citizen had dialed 999, reporting that a man who seemed to be drunk had stumbled into his car in a Lidl parking lot.
When officers arrived, they saw Siziba’s car swerving across lanes before pulling over.
Breath Test Results
Siziba was breathalyzed at the scene, where he blew a shocking 103 – way above the legal limit of 35.
Bodycam footage from the police shows one officer commenting on the strong smell of alcohol coming from Siziba and asking about his children.
Siziba, who appeared to be slurring his speech, initially misstated his child’s age before being corrected.
The Outcome
Siziba appeared in Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on September 13, where he admitted to drink driving and driving without insurance.
He was disqualified from driving for 25 months and fined £350.
Detective Constable Les Ellmer condemned Siziba’s actions, highlighting the severe risk he posed to himself, his children, and other road users.
A Call to Action
Detective Constable Ellmer thanked the vigilant citizen who reported the incident, emphasizing the importance of reporting suspected drunk drivers.
If you ever believe someone is driving under the influence, don’t hesitate to call 999.
