In a tragic turn of events, a 22-year-old man’s night took a deadly turn just moments after filming an illegal street takeover in Memphis, Tennessee.
Antoine Hampton, a self-described content creator, captured footage of cars performing donuts and revving their engines on a busy street.
The video, which he later shared on Facebook, showed the chaotic scene as Hampton frowned upon the reckless display.
Tragically, only thirty minutes after recording the takeover, Hampton was involved in a fatal crash.
Memphis police reported that Hampton’s Infiniti QX70 collided with a Lexus SUV, resulting in the deaths of Hampton, the Lexus driver Lachell Boyd, and her passenger Terry Baggett.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene of mangled cars and blaring horns at the crash site.
Tanya Allen, a neighbor, recalled the aftermath: “It was a big mess… The cars were mangled and the horns were going off.”
The incident has sparked concerns about drag racing in the area.
Stacy Edwards, another resident, expressed her worries: “Drag racing has become a major issue here.
The cars are just very fast and out of control.”
Calls for Action
Residents and officials alike are calling for stricter measures to curb reckless driving.
Bennie Cobb, a retired sheriff’s captain, emphasized the need for swift and severe consequences: “There needs to be an immediate, harsh punishment to set an example.”
Police Response
Meanwhile, authorities are urging witnesses to come forward and are actively seeking six vehicles that fled the scene. They are considering enhanced surveillance measures, including helicopters and drones, to monitor and deter illegal street activities.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with reckless driving and the urgent need for community and law enforcement collaboration to ensure road safety.
