A heartbreaking incident unfolded when a 16-year-old girl lost her life after taking two homemade MDMA pills from a teenage drug dealer.
Lucy Hill, along with five of her friends, traveled from their home in Exmouth to Exeter to enjoy a teenage music event at the Move nightclub in December 2022.
Excitement filled the air as the girls arrived, but things quickly took a tragic turn.
A Night to Remember Turns Sour
The group of six decided to take the pills, with Lucy opting to consume two right away.
Almost immediately, they began feeling unwell, experiencing dizziness from the hallucinogenic effects of the drugs.
As the night progressed, it became clear that they were in trouble.
Club staff noticed their distress and took Lucy outside, placing her in the recovery position while an ambulance was summoned.
Tragically, Lucy passed away shortly after arriving at an Exeter hospital, just as her devastated family rushed to her side.
The Drug Supply Chain
In court, it was revealed that the drugs Lucy took were supplied by James Greaves, who had filled empty prescription pill capsules with MDMA.
He sold these pills, which came in various sizes and colors, to his former school friend, Taylor Rowsell, for £200.
The court heard that Rowsell had been approached by a teenage girl seeking MDMA but couldn’t fulfill the request himself, leading him to contact Greaves, who had established connections for drug distribution in Devon.
Rowsell later bragged to Greaves about making a profit of £350 by selling the pills at £10 each.
The Aftermath of the Tragedy
Prosecutors stated that Greaves played a crucial role in this tragic incident, as he was responsible for manufacturing the drugs supplied to Rowsell and others.
He was aware of what he was doing, and the evidence suggested he had a clear understanding of the dangers involved.
After learning of Lucy’s death, Rowsell reached out to Greaves, expressing his distress by saying he was “losing it.”
Both teenagers were arrested but remained silent during police interviews.
Remembering Lucy
Lucy’s mother, Deborah Hill, described her daughter as a “kind and caring” individual, emphasizing that their lives would never be the same again.
Tragically, Lucy had just turned 16 a week before her untimely death. Her sister Chloe tearfully recounted how much she missed sharing experiences with her, calling her a “perfect angel.”
In the courtroom, it was noted that both Rowsell and Greaves were 16 and 17 years old at the time of the offenses and both have admitted to supplying Class A drugs.
The case has been postponed for sentencing next month, with both defendants released on bail but warned by the judge that they could face immediate custody.
Lucy’s school, Exmouth Community College, remembered her as a “kind, considerate, beautiful person” who was cherished by both her peers and teachers.
They reflected on her sunny disposition, her loyalty, and her hard work, reminding everyone that Lucy was always there to support others.
