Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thuso Phala has weighed in on Orlando Pirates’ performance, suggesting the team could struggle without three of their standout players.
Key Players Making a Difference
Phala, who has hung up his boots but remains a keen observer of South African football, believes that Patrick Maswanganyi, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Tshegofatso Mabasa are crucial to the Buccaneers’ success.
According to him, these players are integral to keeping the team competitive.
Even before the Betway Premiership officially kicks off, Pirates have already been active with five games under their belt, securing three wins and two draws.
This early momentum has set them up nicely, but Phala argues that losing these key players could spell trouble.
Phala’s Predictions
Phala is confident that without Maswanganyi, Mofokeng, and Mabasa, Orlando Pirates might face significant challenges.
“If you remove these three from the team, it’s going to be very tough for them,” Phala told FARPost.
He even went so far as to suggest that his own Sunday social team could give the Pirates a run for their money, though he acknowledges they might still come out on top.
Upcoming Challenges for the Buccaneers
Orlando Pirates are gearing up for a big match this weekend against Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League second round.
After falling short against the same team at this stage last year, fans will be hoping for a stronger performance and a positive result in the first leg in Botswana.
All eyes will be on how the team fares and whether they can overcome the challenges highlighted by Phala.
