Amnesty International has raised concerns about the continued detention of fifteen protesters who were arrested in 2020 during the Lekki Tollgate shooting.
According to the organization, these individuals are still being held in detention without trial at the Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre and Ikoyi Medium Security Correctional Centre in Lagos.
Amnesty International’s Statement
Amnesty International made these allegations on the third anniversary of the tragic #EndSARS incident in Lagos State.
The organization’s media and communications manager in Nigeria, Isa Sanusi, stated that authorities had filed various charges, including possession of unlawful firearms, theft, arson, and murder, against many of the detained protesters.

Calls for Immediate Release
Isa Sanusi emphasized the urgent need for the protesters’ release, stating that three years in detention without trial represents a grave injustice.
He also expressed concern over the alleged torture and ill-treatment faced by many peaceful #EndSARS protesters since 2020.
Torture Allegations
One of the detained protesters, Oluwole Isa, who is currently held in Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre, shared a harrowing account of torture.
He described being tied with a rope, with his hands and legs bound together at his back, and suspended on an iron bar.
He claimed to have been beaten with a machete and wooden batons while being coerced to confess to involvement in vandalism during the #EndSARS protests. Isa still bears the scar of a machete cut on his throat from this alleged ordeal.
