…By Larry John for TDPel Media. Eamonn Holmes, who co-hosted This Morning with his wife Ruth Langsford for 15 years, has strongly criticized Phillip Schofield’s statement that there is “no toxicity” at the show, calling it “delusional.”
Holmes expressed his views on Twitter, stating that Schofield’s statement was misleading and highlighting Schofield’s use of Instagram Stories, which disappear after 24 hours, as a means to avoid leaving a permanent record.
Holmes refused to provide further publicity to Schofield’s alleged lies and warned him that he had chosen the wrong person to engage in a fight.
Schofield, 61, recently resigned from ITV and was dropped by his talent agency YMU after admitting to an affair with a younger male colleague on This Morning, describing it as “unwise, but not illegal.”
Speculation about a feud with his former co-host Holly Willoughby had been circulating for weeks.
Dr Ranj Singh, a former resident doctor on This Morning, has spoken out about the show’s “toxic” culture, revealing that he had raised concerns about bullying and discrimination two years ago when he worked there.
He claimed to have been marginalized and managed out of the show for whistleblowing.
In a statement posted on his Instagram story, Schofield defended the show and said that the negative voices were those of a few individuals with grudges, while the majority of people involved with the show were talented, kind, and hardworking.
During Monday’s episode of This Morning, Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond, the current hosts, indirectly addressed the allegations of toxicity.
O’Leary expressed appreciation for the support and mentioned that the entire team, including the crew, loves making the show.
Hammond added that they would continue to do so.
Gyles Brandreth, a guest in the studio, also expressed his happiness working on the show and stated that it was a joyful place.
Dr Ranj released a statement on Sunday, asserting that the issues at This Morning extend beyond Schofield.
He revealed concerns about the behind-the-scenes atmosphere and treatment of individuals, including himself.
Dr Ranj reported raising these concerns with senior executives at ITV but felt that he was pushed aside for speaking up.
He also emphasized the challenges of proving bullying and discrimination, especially when those in power control the narrative.
ITV responded to Dr Ranj’s statement, expressing regret over his post and affirming their commitment to providing a platform for concerns to be raised.
They stated that an external review had been conducted following a complaint made by Dr Ranj, which found no evidence of bullying or discrimination.
According to The Mail On Sunday, Schofield first met the younger colleague with whom he had an affair when the individual was 15 years old.
Schofield’s lawyers acknowledged the initial meeting but stated that the affair began when the person joined ITV as an adult.
ITV confirmed that they investigated rumors of a relationship between Schofield and the employee approximately three years ago, but both parties denied it at the time.
The broadcaster indicated that no concrete evidence beyond hearsay and rumor was found during their inquiry in 2020.
