A heartbreaking case has emerged in Derby, where a dog owner has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison following the tragic death of his younger brother, Wayne Stevens.
The incident unfolded at their home last year, leaving the family grappling with unimaginable grief after a Cane Corso cross fatally attacked Wayne.
Details of the Attack
Emergency services received a distress call reporting a serious injury at a house on Cameron Road shortly after 5:50 a.m. on April 22, 2023.
Upon arrival, they found Wayne with severe injuries, but despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In an effort to protect both officers and the public, the police had to shoot the dog at the scene.
Legal Consequences for the Owner
Wayne’s brother, Gary Stevens, 54, faced serious charges for his role in the tragedy.
He pleaded guilty to having a dangerously out-of-control dog under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
As a result, he was sentenced at Derby Crown Court, receiving a four-and-a-half-year prison term.
