Court Hears Disturbing Testimony of a Mother-of-Three Who Was Raped Repeatedly While Unconscious on a Park Bench in Southall, West London

In a heartbreaking case that has drawn significant attention, a mother of three lost her life under harrowing circumstances in a London park.

Natalie Shotter, a 37-year-old NHS worker, reportedly fell unconscious during a night out in Southall, West London, only to become the victim of a gruesome attack.

The court has been presented with chilling details surrounding her death, which occurred on July 17, 2021.

Allegations Against the Defendant

Iidow Mohamed, 35, stands accused of taking advantage of Natalie while she lay incapacitated.

He faces charges of rape and manslaughter but has denied the allegations.

During the proceedings, prosecutor Alison Morgan KC described the horrifying discovery made by a passerby who found Ms. Shotter’s body on a bench hours after the incident.

“What had happened to Natalie was not clear,” Ms. Morgan stated, emphasizing that there were no visible signs of stabbing or beating on her body.

“It has taken time to understand what must have happened to Natalie to cause her death.”

CCTV Evidence Reveals Disturbing Details

The court learned that a distant CCTV camera captured events leading up to the tragedy.

Ms. Morgan characterized Natalie as “vulnerable,” noting her struggles with mental health, alcohol dependency, and drug abuse.

She pointed out that on the night in question, Natalie was simply trying to enjoy herself but became a target for Mohamed.

The prosecutor further explained, “She was raped repeatedly by this defendant, and it was the process of raping her, again and again, that caused her death.”

Despite the footage being grainy, it revealed Mohamed engaging in acts of oral penetration while Natalie lay motionless.

The evidence suggested that she was unconscious during the assault, raising critical questions about consent.

“He could never have believed that she was consenting,” Ms. Morgan asserted, condemning the defendant’s actions as the direct cause of Natalie’s tragic death.

A Vulnerable Victim

Details about Ms. Shotter’s vulnerability that night were also shared in court.

Standing at just over 5 feet tall and weighing around 43 kg, she was described as small and fragile.

Prosecutor Morgan mentioned that Natalie had been drinking and possibly inhaling amyl nitrate, known colloquially as poppers, but clarified that these substances did not directly cause her death.

“Consuming substances made Natalie all the more vulnerable,” she stated, explaining how it may have led to her being alone in the park in the middle of the night, exposing her to danger.

Moments Before the Incident

Earlier CCTV footage showcased a different side of Natalie’s night, capturing her walking, chatting on her phone, and even dancing outside a shop to a drumbeat, accompanied by a few friends.

The prosecutor noted that while she had been drinking, Natalie appeared to be in good spirits and able to walk unassisted.

However, this would soon take a tragic turn.

As the trial continues, jurors are expected to view further CCTV footage from the park where the assault occurred, which will likely provide more context to the prosecution’s case.

Mohamed only spoke to confirm his identity and plead not guilty to the charges against him, leaving the court to grapple with the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding Natalie Shotter’s death.
