Marumo Gallants are making significant changes as they gear up for the new season.
The team has parted ways with over 15 players, many of whom are expected to join the newly formed Leruma United.
This move is part of a major overhaul under coach Dylan Kerr, who’s returning for his third stint with the club.
Kerr has also confirmed Mpho Maleka as his new assistant coach.
The club isn’t just letting players go; they’re also bringing in new talent.
Among the fresh signings are Phathutshedzo Nange, formerly of Kaizer Chiefs, and Veluyeke Zulu, who previously played for AmaZulu FC.
These additions are likely to shake things up and bring new energy to the team.
Players Departing
The list of players leaving Marumo Gallants includes Sbusiso Khumalo, Tshiamo Moshoene, Sanele Kumalo, Themba Ndlovu, Itumeleng Shopane, Lerato Ntemane, George Lata Lloyd, Sbusiso Phiri, Marvin Skhosana, Tshepo Chaine, Osborn Maluleke, Lucky Motshotsho, Tshepo Skhosana, and Cyril Nguessan.
Some of these players are still under contract but are expected to transition to Leruma United soon.
Leruma United’s New Chapter
There was initial speculation that Dondol Stars would acquire the Marumo Gallants’ Motsepe Foundation Championship status.
However, it’s now clear that Leruma United will take over the status after Dondol failed to reach a deal with Gallants. Leruma United, which was relegated from the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League two seasons ago, is now playing in the regional league.
Although no official announcement has been made, it’s expected that the club will remain in Gauteng for its home matches.
The Premier Soccer League has yet to announce the official start date for the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
