…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. Bashir El-Rufai, the son of the former Governor of Kaduna state, engaged in a heated exchange with Shehu Sani, a former Senator representing Kaduna Central.
Sani had dared El-Rufai’s father, Governor El-Rufai, to publicly release his asset declaration forms from 2015 and 2023.
According to Naija News, Sani accused the former governor of leaving Kaduna State with a significant debt, despite denying any misappropriation of funds.
Sani Alleges Political Ambitions and Questions El-Rufai’s Integrity
Sani went on to suggest that El-Rufai was seeking a political assignment from President Bola Tinubu, following his previous work for Tinubu’s rival, Rotimi Amaechi, during the party primary.
Additionally, Sani challenged the former governor to disclose the contents of the asset declaration forms he submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau in both 2015 and 2023.
Bashir El-Rufai Responds, Urging Sani to Show Respect
In response to Sani’s accusations, Bashir El-Rufai took to Twitter and advised Sani to limit their Twitter sparring to individuals of the same age group, instead of involving his father.
He suggested that the disagreements should remain between Sani and himself and not extend to his father, emphasizing that they are the ones who share the same peer group.
El-Rufai Criticizes Buhari’s Approach to Counter Terrorism
Meanwhile, Nasir El-Rufai, during the swearing-in ceremony of his successor, Senator Uba Sani, in Kaduna, criticized the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari for their handling of terrorism.
El-Rufai asserted that his recommendations for addressing the crisis were ignored.
He revealed that in 2017, he had proposed that the government classify the growing issue of banditry as an insurgency and involve the military.
Unfortunately, his call went unheeded until 2022, after a Federal High Court ruling.
El-Rufai Expresses Disappointment in Delayed Response to Banditry
El-Rufai expressed disappointment that the government did not recognize the severity of the situation until banditry had already caused significant harm to the lives, freedoms, and livelihoods of the people.
He stated that it was regrettable that it took so long for the government to act decisively in response to the crisis.
