Christina Sorensen, 63, Released Without Bail After Fatal Las Vegas DUI Crash That Claimed Her Niece’s Life

In a tragic incident on Saturday in Las Vegas, Christina Sorensen, a 63-year-old woman, was involved in a fatal DUI crash.

Sorensen was driving a Corvette when she allegedly ran a red light and collided with a Jeep, leading to the death of her nine-year-old niece, Sophia Sandoval. Sophia, who was in the passenger seat, suffered severe blunt force injuries from the crash, as confirmed by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Initially, Sorensen was arrested at the scene, and Justice of the Peace Natalie Tyrrell set her bail at $100,000. The conditions included electronic monitoring, a drug patch requirement, and a prohibition against driving.

However, due to the prosecutors’ decision not to file charges yet, Sorensen’s defense attorney, Ryan Helmick, argued that these conditions were unjustified.

The judge, North Las Vegas Chief Justice of the Peace Kalani Hoo, agreed and ordered Sorensen’s release without bail conditions.

Investigation Status and Legal Proceedings

Chief Deputy District Attorney Megan Thomson had previously requested that the bail conditions remain in place, allowing prosecutors 120 days to file charges.

According to the Clark County DA’s office, the investigation is still ongoing. They are awaiting the final toxicology results from Sorensen’s blood to determine if any substances were present.

These results, which could take several months, are crucial for deciding whether to proceed with criminal charges.

Sorensen’s Defense and Current Status

Sorensen consented to a blood draw immediately after the crash.

Although a breath test showed no alcohol in her system, she failed several field sobriety tests, which led to her arrest on suspicion of narcotic influence. Sorensen, a cosmetologist at Posare Salon, will remain free of bail conditions until formal charges are filed.

A coworker from the salon recalled that Sophia had visited the salon for a haircut the day of the crash and had wanted to ride in Sorensen’s Corvette.

Sorensen’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 10, where she faces potential charges of driving under the influence resulting in death, reckless driving, and child abuse or neglect.
