Jason Kelce has recently been making waves on ESPN, but not everyone is thrilled about his presence on screen.
The NFL star, known for his lively personality, joined the network as part of the Monday Night Football team, and while many fans welcomed the addition, one ESPN personality wasn’t too happy.
Kelce’s Monday Night Football Debut
Earlier this month, Kelce made his first appearance on the Monday Night Football pregame show.
He even got some time in the booth during Week 2, as his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, faced off against the Atlanta Falcons.
His enthusiastic return to Lincoln Financial Field had him dancing and tossing beers to fans before the game, leaving a lasting impression both on the field and on television.
Criticism from Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo
However, not everyone is celebrating Kelce’s arrival. ESPN’s Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo voiced his frustration on First Take, saying, “I think we’ve all seen plenty of Jason Kelce in the last few weeks.”
Russo wasn’t thrilled with Kelce joining the commentary team alongside Troy Aikman and Joe Buck, a view that some fans seem to share.
ESPN Colleagues React
Russo’s criticism didn’t go unnoticed.
Former Colts offensive lineman Jeff Saturday called Russo a “hater” during the show, while Stephen A. Smith defended Kelce, calling him “a new star to the network” and expressing his fondness for the NFL player.
The Beer Tossing Incident
Adding to Kelce’s bold TV personality, there was some playful controversy surrounding his pregame beer tosses.
Some even accused him of being drunk before going on air.
His brother, Travis Kelce, jokingly remarked on their podcast New Heights that Jason seemed to be riding a roller coaster of sobriety during the broadcast.
However, Jason quickly shut down the rumor, stating he hadn’t consumed a single beer despite throwing nearly 100 to fans.
“I’m a professional, Travis. I don’t mess around,” Jason added with a laugh.
Looking Ahead: Miami Awaits
Despite the mixed opinions, Jason Kelce continues to be a prominent figure in ESPN’s Monday Night Football coverage.
This week, he and the crew will be in Miami as the Dolphins prepare to take on the Tennessee Titans.
Fans can expect more lively commentary from the Eagles legend as he continues his journey on the small screen.
