In a recent twist, Chippa United, a team competing in the Betway Premiership, has had to switch their home ground for upcoming matches due to poor pitch conditions at the Buffalo City Stadium.
The decision comes after a successful win against Richards Bay at the same location just days prior.
Initial Plans and Recent Developments
Originally, the club had announced that they would host two matches at Buffalo City Stadium, including the one against Richards Bay and another against TS Galaxy.
While Chippa United primarily plays at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, they also utilize Buffalo City Stadium for some fixtures.
However, the situation has changed dramatically.
Weather Wreaks Havoc
Chippa United has confirmed that their match against TS Galaxy, scheduled for September 29, will now take place at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The club explained that severe weather conditions, including heavy rains and even snowfall in some parts of the Eastern Cape, have severely affected the pitch quality.
“The extreme weather caused significant damage to the drainage system at Buffalo City Stadium, compromising the quality of the field,” the club stated.
They are committed to maintaining high standards in football and have decided to take immediate action to repair and upgrade the drainage system.
This work is expected to take about five weeks, during which the stadium will be closed.
Invitation to Fans
The upcoming match against TS Galaxy at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is still set for September 29, and Chippa United is inviting their fans to come out in full force.
“We encourage all our Chilli Boys supporters to show their passion and energy in the stands as we face our next challenge.
Your support makes all the difference,” they emphasized.
To make it easier for fans to attend, the club is providing transportation.
Buses will leave at 8 AM on the day of the match, ensuring that everyone arrives in time to cheer on the team.
Commitment to Future Matches
Chippa United sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this venue change may cause.
They reassured fans that PSL football will return to Buffalo City Stadium once the necessary upgrades and repairs are completed.
The club appreciates the ongoing support from their loyal fans and is looking forward to seeing them at the next match.
