Chelsea to Receive Financial Windfall of Up to £1 Million If England Appoints Graham Potter as New Manager After His Departure from Stamford Bridge

Chelsea might be in for a financial boost if the FA decides to replace Gareth Southgate with Graham Potter.

Graham Potter’s tenure at Chelsea was brief; he was dismissed in April 2023 after just seven months in charge.

Despite this short stay, the club agreed to keep paying him his salary for the next 18 months, which is roughly £200,000 per week.

This arrangement means Chelsea is on the hook for Potter’s wages until October 2024.

If Potter takes up the role as England manager, the FA’s payments to him would be offset against what Chelsea still owes.

This could translate into a financial boost for the west London club, potentially up to £1 million, which would help them adhere to the Premier League’s financial regulations.

Chelsea’s Previous Investment

Chelsea made a significant investment when they brought Potter on board in September 2022, following Thomas Tuchel’s departure. They paid Brighton around £21 million for Potter and his coaching staff.

Potter was hired on a five-year contract but was let go less than a year later.

The FA’s Search for Southgate’s Successor

With Gareth Southgate stepping down, the FA is now on the hunt for a new manager.

While they are considering candidates beyond English coaches, Potter is a strong contender, alongside names like Eddie Howe and Mauricio Pochettino.

If Potter were to be appointed, his salary could be in the region of £100,000 a week, similar to Southgate’s previous earnings.
