Charlize Theron Announces The Old Guard 2 Sequel Release Soon Following Netflix’s Major Overhaul in Post-Production

Charlize Theron has some thrilling news for fans: The sequel to *The Old Guard* is coming out soon! The 48-year-old actress confirmed that after a series of delays, including some major changes at Netflix, the project is back on track.

At her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project Block Party, she shared with Variety, “We hit a bit of a snag with post-production, which actually halted about five weeks in.”

Theron explained that Netflix was undergoing significant changes during this time, which impacted the film’s progress.

“I totally get it,” she said, acknowledging the challenges the streaming service faced.

Despite the setbacks, Theron is thrilled that the sequel is moving forward. “We finally picked it back up, and I’m really excited about it.

It’s a really important film for us, and I only wanted to do it if we could make it amazing,” she added.

Cast and Crew Updates

The sequel, which finished filming around two years ago, will see new faces joining the cast.

Uma Thurman and Henry Golding are set to appear alongside returning stars like Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Victoria Mahoney will direct the film, taking over from Gina Prince-Bythewood.

Theron will reprise her role as Andromache of Scythia, with the story continuing from Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez’s graphic novel series.

The first movie followed a team of immortal mercenaries on a revenge mission, and fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

Looking Back and Moving Forward

In June 2022, Theron mentioned the excitement among the cast for a sequel after the original film’s success on Netflix. She remarked, “We’re still pushing this one out.

Let’s take a little break, but since everyone is so eager, I’m sure we’ll start talking about it again when the time is right.”

Reflecting on the original film’s success, which was released in July 2020 and became a hit with 72 million households watching it in the first four weeks, Theron expressed her amazement.

“It’s pretty nutty, right? I didn’t really think about how big the audience could be while making the film,” she said with a laugh. “I’m not that brave. I don’t want to hear predictions. No, thank you.”
