Cerys Rees, a 34-year-old woman from Pontypridd, South Wales, made a heartfelt promise to her late husband, Gareth.
After his passing earlier this year, she vowed to scatter his ashes in every country she visited.
This promise was not just a tribute to Gareth but also a way for Cerys to find some peace and healing after his loss.
However, during a recent trip to Antalya, Turkey, to fulfill this promise, Cerys faced an unexpected and serious health crisis.
While in Turkey, Cerys suffered multiple seizures, leading to a critical condition that required her to be placed in an induced coma and put on life support.
This was a terrifying and unexpected turn of events for her family and friends, who quickly mobilized to be by her side.
Her friends traveled to Turkey to support her, and they even started a fundraiser to help cover the costs of bringing her back to the UK.
The Battle for Medical Expenses
The situation took another challenging turn as Cerys’ family began battling with an insurance company over a £38,000 bill for an air ambulance to transport her home.
The insurance firm claimed that Cerys had not disclosed a pre-existing epilepsy diagnosis, which her family strongly denies.
According to them, she was never formally diagnosed with epilepsy, although she had a history of seizures, including one after a traumatic car accident in 2022.
Family’s Plea for Help
Cerys’ sister, Rhianna, expressed the family’s deep fears and concerns.
They are desperate to get Cerys back to the UK, hoping that the intensive care unit at Heath Hospital can provide the care she urgently needs.
The family is living in fear and struggling to cope with the situation but remains determined to do everything they can to help Cerys.
They are grateful for the public’s support through donations but are also seeking more awareness and assistance to ensure Cerys receives the best possible care.
A String of Losses
This crisis comes after a series of heartbreaking losses for Cerys.
In addition to losing her husband in January 2024, she also lost her brother in 2019 and her father in 2020.
These tragedies have deeply impacted her, and her family is determined to help her survive this latest ordeal.
They are holding onto hope that Cerys can be safely brought home and receive the medical attention she needs to recover.
