The Cultural & Artistic Responses to the Environmental Crisis (CAREC) is a year-long program dedicated to advancing community-based cultural practices that address climate justice, while also recognizing the social, political, and economic dimensions of the environmental crisis.
Facilitating Interdisciplinary Exchange and Critical Artistic Work
The program serves as an interdisciplinary platform, fostering critical artistic endeavors and connecting practitioners engaged in climate justice. It emphasizes non-hegemonic forms of knowledge, seeking to envision alternative models of climate justice on a global scale.
Supporting Collaboration and Individual Practice
To encourage collaboration within the cohort and support each artist in their individual practice, the program includes various forms of interaction such as workshops, guest talks, and peer-to-peer sessions.
While most activities are conducted online due to the diverse geographical locations of participants, the program also includes two in-person Lab Weeks, which are week-long mentoring intensives.
Additionally, participants collaborate on a collective project in the form of a publication and a web space.
Time Commitment and Language Requirement
Participants are expected to dedicate an average of 10 hours per month to program activities, although this may vary throughout the year.
Proficiency in spoken English is required to facilitate mutual learning and exchange among participants.
Awards and Eligibility
Each artist selected for the program receives an award of €10,000 to develop a body of work outlined in their application.
The program is open to mid-career artists and cultural practitioners with approximately 8-15 years of relevant professional experience.
Applicants who have previously received a Mentorship Award from the Prince Claus Fund are ineligible to reapply.
Additionally, applicants must be from and based in one of the Prince Claus Fund eligible countries.
