Hugo Broos, coach of the South African national football team Bafana Bafana, expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress despite two recent friendly match draws.
While acknowledging a lack of goalscoring prowess, Broos highlighted the team’s overall improvement.
Fearless Bafana?
Broos believes Bafana Bafana can compete with any team in Africa.
He pointed to the team’s performance against Algeria, a strong continental competitor, as evidence of their growth.
“We played against a very strong team, but I don’t think there was much difference in quality between Algeria and ourselves,” Broos said.
Confidence Soaring
Despite concerns from some fans and pundits about the team’s finishing ability, Broos emphasized the high level of confidence within the squad.
He praised the team spirit and camaraderie, both on and off the field.
“The team is brimming with confidence,” Broos remarked.
New Faces on the Horizon
Broos hinted at calling up new players who impressed during the recent international window.
“Without mentioning names, there are some players who convinced me, and we will see them in June,” he said.
Goal Scoring Remains a Challenge
Broos acknowledged the longstanding issue of Bafana Bafana’s lack of a prolific goalscorer.
He pointed out the disparity between players’ performances in domestic leagues and international matches.
“Everyone has to know those games, international games are one or two levels higher than PSL, it’s not easy to score,” Broos explained.
Looking Ahead to June
With the return of injured strikers like Makgopa and Foster anticipated in June, Broos expressed hope for a solution to the team’s goalscoring woes.
“There are some things to wait for,” he said.
