With a focus on fostering young African global citizens, this virtual scholarship empowers change-makers passionate about advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A Virtual Journey: Global Citizen Scholarship Program Overview
The GC Scholarship offers a fully virtual experience, empowering young African change-makers to propose and implement localized SDG Micro-Projects in their communities.
Participants benefit from a comprehensive program, including a summer school, peer-to-peer mentoring, and expert training on specific topics related to the SDGs.
Targeted Participants: 17 Young African Change-Makers
This year’s program targets 17 young African change-makers between the ages of 20 to 35. Eligible participants hail from Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, and Kenya, representing a diverse group committed to driving positive change aligned with the SDGs.
Eligibility Criteria: A Call to African Youth
African youth aged 20 to 35, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation, are invited to apply.
Citizenship from Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, or Kenya is a prerequisite. Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree, demonstrate a strong dedication to the SDGs, and possess a minimum English level B2 (European Standards).
Scholarship Benefits: A Transformative 8-9 Months
Selected Scholars will embark on an 8-9 month journey, enhancing their knowledge of Agenda 2030, entrepreneurship for sustainable development, and establishing professional networks.
Benefits include full cost coverage for a one-week Summer School training, expert workshops, peer-to-peer mentoring, and a seed funding of 500 USD for implementing an SDG Micro-Project.
Recognition and Certification: Acknowledging Achievements
Scholars completing the program will receive a Certificate of Achievement signed by Co-chairs of the Ban Ki-moon Centre, H.E. Ban Ki-moon and H.E. Dr. Heinz Fischer.
The certificate acknowledges successful SDG Micro-Project implementation, reflecting the commitment to global citizenship and sustainable development.
Application Process: Navigating the Nomination Stage
Applicants navigate a detailed nomination process, providing personal and professional details along with information about their proposed SDG Micro-Project.
The final stage requires attaching a motivational statement, portrait picture, introduction video, CV, and a project outline. The deadline for applications is February 25, 2024.
