In the wake of Noa Argamani’s rescue, the joy is bittersweet. Though she was freed in time to see her terminally ill mother, her boyfriend, Avinatan Or, who was also taken hostage on October 7, remains in captivity.
A Plea for Ceasefire
Avinatan’s brother, Moshe Or, has made an impassioned plea for a ceasefire deal to bring the 30-year-old home. Moshe, 33, shared with the Daily Mail how he continues to send WhatsApp messages to Avinatan’s disconnected phone, seeking solace in maintaining this virtual connection.
Unwavering Strength Despite Adversity
Moshe, a father of three, holds no resentment about Noa being released first. Instead, her freedom has invigorated his determination. He expressed his thoughts, saying, “Seeing Noa return home filled me with joy. Now, it’s crucial to bring Avinatan and the other 120 hostages back. We need a deal to bring them home so they can live their lives and celebrate their love again.”
A Love Story Interrupted
Noa and Avinatan’s relationship began at a party while they were studying at Ben Gurion University in Tel Aviv. Their bond, marked by Noa’s lively energy and joy for life, complemented Avinatan’s diligent nature as an electrical engineer. The couple had plans to move in together and meet Avinatan’s family before tragedy struck on October 7.
The Day of the Kidnapping
On that fateful day, images of Noa, 26, screaming “Don’t kill me” as she was abducted at the Nova music festival, made headlines worldwide. Meanwhile, Avinatan, who could only watch helplessly as Noa was taken away by Hamas militants, received less attention. There has been no word of Avinatan since.
A Family’s Mixed Emotions
Following Noa’s rescue, Avinatan’s family hoped she might have information about his whereabouts, but she was just as desperate for answers. Despite the ongoing uncertainty, Noa’s freedom brought overwhelming joy to Moshe, his parents Ditza and Yaron, and his five siblings. “We couldn’t believe it, it was such a miracle,” said Moshe.
Connecting Through Messages
Moshe texted Noa’s father, Yaakov, expressing his desire to meet her “when she is comfortable and ready.” To his surprise, he received a reply saying, “Noa really wants to see you.” Moshe, who lives with his wife Yael and their children, felt a mix of excitement and apprehension about the meeting.
A Heartfelt Reunion
Moshe described his feelings when he met Noa, saying, “I was just very happy for Avinatan. I was so happy to see what an incredible woman she is.” Three days before Moshe met Noa, his mother, 57-year-old Ditza, also met her. “My mother felt a strong connection with Noa,” Moshe shared.
Messages to a Disconnected Phone
Over the past eight months, Moshe has sent numerous WhatsApp messages to Avinatan’s disconnected phone, which he has vowed to keep private. “When I have all these thoughts in my head, I send them to him via WhatsApp,” Moshe said. “Beyond that, I always send him positive energy. I want him to know that we are fighting for him.”
Hope for a Happy Ending
Ultimately, Moshe’s greatest wish is to see his brother and Noa together again. “It would be the most amazing love story,” he said, hoping for a future where Avinatan and Noa can finally dance and celebrate their love freely.
