It looks like Britain is in for a bit of a rollercoaster when it comes to the weather over the next few days. Before the weekend brings back some summer sunshine, we’re facing a spell of heavy rain across various parts of the country.
Expect a day with a mix of showers throughout the UK.
Scotland will see the heaviest rain, but things should clear up by the evening. Today’s temperatures are looking like 23°C (73°F) in southern England, 20°C (68°F) up North, and 18°C (64°F) in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Amy Bokota from the Met Office explains that the South East will start off with brighter and fresher weather, while the far North West will be quite damp. This is due to an area of low pressure and an occluded front bringing heavy and frequent showers in the morning. However, as the afternoon rolls in, a high-pressure ridge will move in over the South, bringing drier conditions.
Most places should stay dry this evening, but the North West may still see some scattered showers.
By dawn, rain might also hit the South West. According to Ms. Bokota, any remaining showers will gradually ease, although western Scotland and the far South West might still catch a few.
Thursday is shaping up to be a cloudy and rainy day.
A new frontal system will push in from the West, bringing rain, drizzle, and murky conditions. Expect heavier rain in the afternoon with temperatures reaching 23°C (73°F) in the South and 21°C (70°F) in the North.
The rain and cloud will make it feel a bit muggy, but there should be some sunshine in the South East and North East England and Scotland.
There might be some isolated surface water flooding, especially in northern Wales and North West England where heavier outbursts of rain are expected.
Looking Ahead
Ms. Bokota also mentioned that with the strong winds and cloud, it might not feel very summery. However, the best sunshine will be in the far South East and parts of Shetland.
Thursday night is predicted to be grey and wet, but conditions are expected to brighten up by the end of the week.
Weekend Forecast
Friday will bring much drier and brighter weather, with highs of 26°C (79°F), although the North may still see some showers.
Temperatures will climb even higher over the weekend, reaching 27°C (81°F) in the South East on Saturday and 29°C (84°F) on Sunday. The North might experience more rain.
Recent Heatwave
