After facing an unimaginable tragedy, BBC commentator John Hunt has made a poignant return to the airwaves.
Just weeks ago, Hunt’s life was upended when his wife, Carol Hunt, and two of his daughters, Hannah and Louise, were tragically killed in a crossbow attack at their family home in Bushey, Hertfordshire.
Tragic Event and Investigation
On July 9, Carol, 61, Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were fatally injured in what police have described as a targeted attack.
The suspect, Kyle Clifford, 26, was apprehended following a manhunt.
Clifford was found in Enfield with self-inflicted injuries and remains in the hospital under police custody.
He faces three counts of murder.
A Delicate Return to Work
Just two months after the horrific event, John Hunt returned to work, covering all seven races at Brighton for Sky Sports.
This marked his first appearance at the track since the attack.
Hunt made the decision to return to Brighton intentionally, as it held special memories for him and his family.
“Carol and I had our last weekend away together in Brighton at the end of May,” he recalled.
Standing in the press box, he was overcome with memories of their time there, but found comfort in the supportive atmosphere.
Finding Comfort in the Community
Hunt noted the warmth and kindness he received from everyone at the track, which was deeply moving.
He expressed gratitude for the support from Racetech and the kindness of racegoers.
Despite the ongoing pain, Hunt and his daughter Amy are taking small steps forward, finding solace in each day.
Moving Forward Amidst Heartbreak
Clifford’s arrest and the subsequent investigation continue, with a spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police confirming that he remains in the hospital for treatment.
Hunt has previously described the impact of the tragedy as “unimaginable,” but he remains determined to move forward, bolstered by the support of those around him.
In a statement, Hunt emphasized the strength and resilience he and his daughter Amy are striving to maintain.
For now, they are focusing on finding moments of peace and healing amid their profound loss.
