Bafana Bafana Face Uganda at Orlando Stadium to Begin Their Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying Campaign with Key Captain Ronwen Williams Missing

Bafana Bafana are gearing up for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, starting with a home game against Uganda at Orlando Stadium this Friday, 6 September.

It’s a big moment for the team, and they’re hoping for strong support from the fans.

Key Absence for South Africa

Unfortunately, South Africa will be missing their captain and goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, due to an injury.

Belgian coach Hugo Broos has expressed how critical Williams’ absence is.

“Losing Ronwen for these two games is a major setback.

He’s not only a fantastic goalkeeper but also a key leader on the field,” Broos noted.

The match against Uganda will kick off at 18:00 on Friday, 6 September 2024.

If you’re planning to attend, tickets are available at all TicketPro outlets, Spar supermarkets (QuickSpar and SuperSpar), SASOL, ENGEN, SHELL, PowerFashion, and JAM Clothing.

SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan and CEO Lydia Monyepao are encouraging fans to come out in full force to support Bafana Bafana.

Road to Morocco 2025

The top two teams from this qualifying group will advance to the AFCON tournament, which will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.

Aiming for a Strong Start

Broos emphasizes the importance of starting the qualifiers on a positive note.

Reflecting on the team’s recent performances, he said, “Looking back at the past eight months, we’ve had some great results.

Our AFCON campaign ended with a bronze medal, and we had solid results in friendlies and World Cup qualifiers.”

Broos believes that a strong start in these qualifiers is crucial.

“A good beginning puts pressure on your opponents, while a poor start can be detrimental.

We need to avoid that and come out strong.”

After their match against Uganda, Bafana Bafana will head to South Sudan for their second group game on Tuesday, 10 September.

Keep an eye on their progress as they aim for success in their AFCON journey.
