Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos Shows Gratitude to PSL for Granting Early Camp Start as the Team Prepares for Their Upcoming AFCON Qualifier Against Congo in Gqeberha

In a recent update, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos shared his appreciation for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after they agreed to his request for an earlier start to the training camp.

This decision allows the team to prepare more effectively for their upcoming match against Congo in the AFCON qualifiers.

Upcoming Matches on the Horizon

Bafana Bafana is set to face Congo on Friday, October 11, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.

Following this encounter, the team will travel to Congo for a return match on Tuesday, October 15.

These matches fall within the FIFA International break, which runs from October 7 to October 15, making it a crucial time for the squad.

Squad Announcement and Camp Details

When announcing his 23-member squad for these important fixtures, Broos expressed his gratitude for the PSL’s flexibility, allowing the camp to kick off as early as Saturday.

He noted that the only competitive match on that day is the MTN8 Final, involving players from Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC.

Efficient Training Plans for Bafana Bafana

“I’m really pleased the PSL has accommodated my request,” Broos stated.

He elaborated on his reasoning: “With just one match taking place, it made sense to gather our players sooner so we could maximize our training time.”

The team plans to fly to Port Elizabeth in the morning, allowing for an afternoon training session.

Broos emphasized that starting the camp on Saturday, instead of waiting until Monday, would make a significant difference in their preparation.

Current Standing and Future Aspirations

As it stands, Bafana Bafana is in a strong position, currently sitting second in Group K of the qualifiers.

They have secured one win against South Sudan and managed a draw at home against Uganda.

Meanwhile, Congo is in third place with just one victory from their two matches.

The top two teams in the group will earn spots in the AFCON tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

Notably, South Africa’s last AFCON appearance was impressive, as they finished third in the tournament held in Ivory Coast.

With the stakes high, fans are eager to see how the team performs in the upcoming matches!
