Orlando Pirates legend Andries Sebola has recently shared some important advice with Patrick Maswanganyi as the new 2024/25 season gets underway.
Maswanganyi made a notable impact in the Buccaneers’ 3-1 win over SuperSport United during the MTN8 quarter-finals last Saturday.
His performance was key, showcasing his skills and delivering crucial forward passes that kept SuperSport’s defense on their toes.
Maswanganyi teamed up effectively with Monnapule Saleng, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Kabelo Dlamini, forming a potent attacking force.
Meanwhile, Saleng, Olisa Ndah, and Evidence Makgopa found the net for Pirates, while Vincent Pule scored the lone goal for SuperSport in his debut for the club.
In that MTN8 match, Maswanganyi was involved in some heated moments, including a confrontation where he elbowed Gape Moralo.
These incidents did not go unnoticed and have sparked some concern.
Andries Sebola has issued a stern warning to Maswanganyi, emphasizing the need for him to address his attitude.
Sebola believes that Maswanganyi’s current demeanor could obstruct his ambitions of becoming a prominent figure in South African football.
“He needs to manage his behavior and emotions better,” Sebola told FARPost.
“Engaging in verbal exchanges with the opposing team’s assistant coach and physically confronting players like Gape Moralo could have led to a red card if the referee had seen it. To make a name for himself at Pirates, he needs to show more control because he’s not a top player for them yet. Despite this, he’s a talented player.”
Maswanganyi’s Journey with Pirates
Maswanganyi is now in his second season with Orlando Pirates after joining from SuperSport United last year. His debut season saw him feature in 40 matches, scoring 10 goals and providing 12 assists.
He played a crucial role in Pirates’ victories in the 2023 MTN8 and Nedbank Cup. The 26-year-old has also recently been called up to Bafana Bafana, further highlighting his impressive form with the team.
