AmaZulu FC is starting a new chapter in their goalkeeping department. Following the departure of Wayne Sandilands earlier this month, the club has brought in a new face for the role.
Sandilands, who joined Fadlu Davids’ technical team at Simba SC in Tanzania, has wrapped up his year-long tenure with the KwaZulu-Natal team.
Stepping into Sandilands’ shoes is Aubrey Vilakazi, previously the goalkeeper coach for AmaZulu’s DStv Diski Challenge team.
This transition was revealed by AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu, who shared that head coach Pablo Franco Martin highly recommended Vilakazi for the position. Vilakazi was officially introduced to the team on Monday, coinciding with the announcement of the club’s new sponsors.
Vilakazi’s promotion to the senior team is a significant step forward in his coaching career. Before joining the first team, he garnered interest from Marumo Gallants.
Zungu expressed confidence in Vilakazi’s abilities, stating, “He’s young, he’s fine, and he’s a product of our development. Not long ago, he was coaching in our development ranks.
He’s done a great job and we believe he’ll excel even more with the first team. Let’s congratulate him and wish him all the best.”
New Signings and Team Updates
In addition to the new goalkeeper coach, AmaZulu FC also welcomed several new signings on Monday.
The fresh faces include Kwanda Mngonyama, Luvuyo Phewa, Etiosa Ighodaro, Boniface Haba, Senzo Ndlovu, Leonardo Roy, and Thato Matli. However, Matli and Roy will be sent out on loan as the new campaign approaches.
Looking Ahead
Reflecting on the previous season, Zungu mentioned, “The squad we had last season was among the best in the PSL. Although the season didn’t go as planned, we still have the transfer window open until September.
We’ll continue to search for new talent until the coach is fully satisfied with the team’s composition.”
With the season approaching, AmaZulu FC remains focused on strengthening their squad and achieving their goals.
