After a memorable stint with Orlando Pirates, Richard Ofori is now embarking on a new chapter in his football career.
As he looks for a new home in Durban, the former Pirates goalkeeper is preparing for a fresh start.
Ofori Signs with AmaZulu
Ofori’s time at Orlando Pirates began to wind down after the arrival of Sipho Chaine, who quickly proved to be a stronger option for passing and distribution.
This shift in the team dynamic pushed Ofori to the bench, and later, the addition of Melusi Buthelezi cemented his role as the third-choice goalkeeper.
Now, at 30, the Ghanaian has officially joined AmaZulu. According to reports from iDiski Times, Ofori has reached an agreement with the Durban-based club.
This move offers him a chance to reset and re-establish his career in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).
AmaZulu Coach Confirms the Move
AmaZulu coach Pablo Martin expressed excitement about Ofori’s arrival.
“He came two days ago and has been training with us.
Richard is a fantastic goalkeeper with vast experience in the PSL, across Africa, and on the international stage with his national team,” Martin said via iDiski Times.
Reflecting on a memorable match, Martin recalled Ofori’s heroics during a CAF quarter-final clash when he was managing Simba SC.
Ofori not only saved two penalties but also scored the decisive penalty that knocked Martin’s team out of the competition.
Though Ofori hasn’t had much playing time recently, Martin is eager to assess his readiness for AmaZulu.
“He’s a free agent and keen to sign. It’s now up to the technical staff, the player, and the club’s director of football to finalize the deal,” Martin added.
Paseka Mako Makes His Comeback
In another development at Orlando Pirates, Paseka Mako is back in action after a long recovery from injury.
The left-back, who has been out of play since suffering a knee ligament injury in October 2023, is eager to return to the pitch and contribute to his team’s success.
Mako’s Return After Injury
Mako, now 30, reflected on the difficult road to recovery.
“I’m thrilled to be back. It’s been a tough journey, but I’m ready to push myself and help the team again,” Mako shared with FARPost.
His excitement and determination were clear as he prepared to rejoin his teammates.
The Orlando Pirates confirmed that Mako has fully recovered and has resumed training with the squad.
Following successful surgery and rehabilitation, he began light training in August and is now fit to participate in the upcoming Betway Premiership campaign.
Strengthening Pirates’ Defense
The return of Mako adds depth and experience to the Pirates’ defense.
His resilience and fighting spirit will be invaluable as the team faces a challenging season that includes league games, domestic cups, and the prestigious CAF Champions League.
The Pirates’ statement emphasized how important Mako’s return is, stating, “Mako’s fitness is a huge boost for the Soweto Giants as they gear up for a busy season ahead.”
With both Ofori and Mako embarking on new paths, the coming months promise to be filled with excitement for both players and their respective teams.
