…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. Ayo Adebanjo, the leader of the Pan Yoruba socio-cultural organization Afenifere, has stated his unwavering belief in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s capability to perform effectively in office.
It is noteworthy that Adebanjo had previously endorsed and campaigned for Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the 2023 elections against Tinubu.
Speaking about Tinubu’s inauguration as President, Adebanjo emphasized that he does not doubt the former Governor of Lagos State’s ability to deliver the promised benefits of democracy to the Nigerian people.
However, he raised concerns about the electoral process that led to Tinubu’s emergence as the country’s leader, suggesting that it did not comply with the electoral laws.
“I don’t doubt his ability, but I don’t believe he was properly elected according to the electoral law,” Adebanjo stated in an interview with Daily Post.
Following widespread panic and long queues at petrol stations nationwide after the President’s announcement of fuel subsidy removal, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made clarifications regarding the matter.
The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Media Centre issued a statement asserting that the President’s announcement does not represent a new development or an immediate policy change.
According to the statement, Tinubu was simply communicating the status quo, emphasizing that the immediate elimination of fuel subsidy will not take effect.
The statement further highlighted that the previous administration had already planned and approved a budget for fuel subsidy, intended to last only for the first half of the year.
The statement from Tinubu’s media center also criticized the unnecessary panic-buying that ensued as a result of the announcement, emphasizing that it was unwarranted considering the context and timing of the decision.
