In the midst of AmaZulu FC’s rigorous preparations for the 2024/25 season, all eyes turned to defensive stalwarts Abbubaker Mobara and Thembela Sikhakhane.
Despite their notable absence from the team’s recent preseason camp in Benoni, Gauteng, speculation about their future at the club was rife.
Abbubaker Mobara, who joined AmaZulu in 2022, has swiftly become a cornerstone in the squad with over 50 appearances.
Similarly, Thembela Sikhakhane, boasting more than 160 appearances for the club, remains a consistent performer, having featured prominently in the previous season.
Addressing the swirling rumors head-on, AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu unequivocally dismissed any suggestions of Mobara and Sikhakhane departing the club.
“They are our players,” Zungu asserted firmly. “They are core to our objectives as AmaZulu going forward.
They’re not going anywhere.”
Zungu further elaborated on their absence from the preseason camp, attributing it to various factors that hindered their ability to join the team.
In addition to Mobara and Sikhakhane, the club’s attention also focused on young talent Siphephelo Majola, who, despite being sidelined and seen on crutches, was highlighted by Zungu as a pivotal figure for AmaZulu’s future.
“He’s core to the team,” Zungu emphasized. “Watch him for the future.”
Looking Ahead
As AmaZulu FC gears up for the upcoming season, the involvement of Sikhakhane and Mobara underscores the team’s commitment to strengthening its defensive line.
Majola’s recovery process continues, promising to add depth and vigor to the squad in the near future.
