A tragic end for 15-year-old Elianne Andam, brutally stabbed in South London as the teenager accused of taking her life can finally be named as he reaches adulthood

In a tragic turn of events, 15-year-old Elianne Andam lost her life in South London last September, and now, the teenager accused of taking her life can finally be named as he reaches adulthood.

Hassan Sentamu, who was just 17 at the time of the incident, is charged with Elianne’s murder, which took place at a bus stop near the Whitgift Centre on the morning of September 27, 2023.

The Incident Unfolds

On that fateful day, Elianne met up with two friends before the attack occurred.

It’s alleged that Sentamu, wearing gloves and a mask, drew a large knife from his waistband and attacked Elianne repeatedly.

Despite the efforts of those nearby to provide first aid, Elianne tragically passed away at 9:21 AM, shortly before her family arrived at the scene.

A post-mortem later revealed that she had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Sentamu was apprehended in New Addington shortly after the incident.

At his last court appearance in March, he admitted to manslaughter but denied murder charges, a plea that the prosecution refused to accept.

His trial is now set for November, where the full details of the case will be scrutinized.

The prosecution described the attack as “brutal,” alleging that the confrontation stemmed from a meeting arranged between Sentamu and his ex-girlfriend to exchange belongings.

Remembering Elianne

Elianne was a student at Old Palace of John Whitgift, a private school for girls in Croydon.

The school community was deeply shaken by her loss, describing her as a “much-loved and valued friend and pupil.”

Elianne’s aunt, Marian, shared that the young girl had dreams of becoming a lawyer and was passionate about gymnastics.

Her family, devastated by the tragedy, remembered her as a kind, intelligent, and thoughtful person with a bright future ahead.

Community and Celebrity Support

Elianne’s death resonated beyond her immediate community.

Actor Idris Elba took to social media to express his condolences, calling for stricter penalties for carrying weapons.

Grime artist Stormzy also paid his respects, attending a candlelit vigil held in Elianne’s honor in October.

The vigil saw friends, family, and mourners gather outside the Whitgift shopping centre to pray and sing “Amazing Grace.”

A Life Celebrated

Elianne’s funeral took place a month after her death.

The ceremony was a celebration of her life, reflecting the joy she brought to others.

Her coffin, carried in a white carriage adorned with pink plumes, was a poignant symbol of the love and care her family and friends felt for her.

Her aunts, Regina Boafo and Ruby Paintsil, emphasized that Elianne always stood up for others, with her passion for justice guiding her actions.

As the community continues to grieve, the upcoming trial will undoubtedly be a significant moment in the quest for justice for Elianne.
