In a heart-wrenching story, a British mother’s life came to a tragic end after undergoing a Brazilian butt lift in Turkey, a procedure she believed would bring positive changes.
Kaydell Brown, a 38-year-old hairdresser from Sheffield, invested £5,400 in what was advertised as a ‘mummy MOT’—a package deal that included a Brazilian butt lift, a tummy tuck, and a boob job. The same procedures in the UK would have cost around £15,000. Sadly, Kaydell never returned home after the surgeries performed on March 26, 2024, at Clinic Expert in Istanbul.
Heartbroken Family’s Outrage
Kaydell’s sister, Leanne, 40, who was also planning to undergo the same surgeries, has voiced her anger and devastation over the incident. Leanne described the clinic as a “pop-up butcher shop” and expressed disbelief at how the situation was handled after her sister’s death. She recounted how, after receiving the tragic news, she was given an envelope of cash and swiftly booked on the next flight back to the UK. “It felt like they were saying, ‘Sorry she’s dead, here’s your plane ticket,’” Leanne told ITV.
A Dream Turned Nightmare
According to Leanne, Kaydell had high hopes that the surgery would help her regain control over her life, especially after gaining weight due to an ankle injury. The two sisters were in good spirits before the operation, excited and looking forward to the positive changes they believed the surgery would bring. However, the dream quickly turned into a nightmare when, 10 hours after the procedure began, Leanne was informed that her sister had died during the surgery.
A Devastating Outcome
Leanne was left in shock and disbelief as she waited in a room, asking repeatedly about her sister’s status, only to be told hours later that Kaydell had not survived. Her request to see Kaydell’s body was denied, leaving her to return to the UK without her beloved sister. The Clinic Expert later told ITV News that an internal investigation found no malpractice, attributing Kaydell’s death to a known complication where fat blocks a blood vessel during surgery.
Official Responses and Ongoing Investigation
The surgeon who performed the procedure, Dr. Sinem Singin, echoed this explanation, stating that the death was due to complications inherent to the surgery rather than any fault in medical care. Meanwhile, a government spokesperson expressed sympathies to Kaydell’s family and emphasized the importance of thoroughly researching cosmetic procedures, especially those performed abroad.
The UK government is reportedly in discussions with Turkish authorities to address the safety of medical treatments for British citizens in Turkey. The tragic incident has also led to an inquest being opened, with a British pathologist’s findings prompting further investigation, which is set to continue into early 2025.

This heartbreaking case is part of a broader issue, as the UK’s Foreign Office has reported that 28 British nationals have died following cosmetic surgery in Turkey since 2019. Kaydell’s family is still awaiting an official cause of death from Turkish authorities.
