SuperSport United defender Thulani Hlatshwayo voices determination for team to recover after season setbacks from Chiefs and Pirates losses

Thulani ‘Tyson’ Hlatshwayo, SuperSport United’s tenacious defender, is urging his team to regroup and fight back after enduring a tough start to the season.

The recent losses to heavyweights Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have highlighted the challenges Matsatsantsa faces, and Tyson is calling for resilience as they look to rebound.

A Rough Season Start for SuperSport

The season has been anything but smooth for SuperSport, who have lost three of their first five Betway Premiership matches.

To make matters worse, Gavin Hunt’s squad has also faced disappointing cup exits at the hands of both Chiefs and Pirates.

The setbacks began with a 3-1 loss to Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-finals and continued as Chiefs handed them a crushing 4-0 defeat, followed by a 2-0 loss to Pirates in a league game.

Tyson’s Message: Time to Regroup and Refocus

Tyson, a former captain for Pirates, understands the pressure his team is under and sees their upcoming match against Chiefs as a chance to turn things around.

“We need to approach each game with focus. We’re set to face Chiefs again, and we know what happened last time in the Carling Knockout,” Hlatshwayo shared.

“Now is the time to stick together and find strength.”

Reflecting on their missed opportunities, he added, “If we had converted our chances, the outcome could have looked very different.

Facing Chiefs and Pirates in just a week hasn’t made things easy, but we have to keep pushing.”

The Challenge of Depth and Competition

Hlatshwayo admits that the team lacks depth, which is a concern when facing dominant squads like Chiefs and Pirates.

“We love playing these games, and if we win, it’s a completely different story.

But the reality is, our squad doesn’t have the depth we’d ideally need for this level of competition,” he explained.

The Upcoming Clash and Financial Hurdles

SuperSport’s upcoming match against Chiefs in the Betway Premiership is scheduled for Saturday evening at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Chiefs come in as the favorites, having already bested SuperSport in the Carling KO. Adding to the strain, head coach Gavin Hunt has spoken out about the club’s financial struggles.

Over the past two years, SuperSport has been compelled to sell around ten key players to rival teams like Chiefs, Pirates, and Sundowns, impacting the team’s stability.

Despite these challenges, Matsatsantsa is determined to make a comeback, and all eyes are on the showdown with Chiefs to see if they can break their streak and regain momentum.
