Pitso Mosimane, renowned for his successful coaching stints with Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns, has recently shared insights into his exciting new role as the head coach of Esteghlal FC in the Persian Gulf Pro League.
His appointment, announced on the evening of October 18, 2024, by MT Sports Marketing & Management, marks a significant step in his career following a brief hiatus from coaching.
A Return to Coaching
After parting ways with Saudi Arabian club Abha in June 2024, Mosimane found himself eager to return to the sidelines.
Joining Esteghlal offers him a fresh challenge alongside his trusted technical team, including Maahier Davids, Kabelo Rangoaga, Musi Matlaba, and Kyle Solomon, who will support him at this prestigious Iranian club.

Mosimane expressed his motivation for choosing Esteghlal, citing the club’s rich history and stature in the Gulf region.
He emphasized the significance of the club, stating, “Esteghlal F.C. is a very big club in the Gulf region with a long and illustrious history.”
He pointed out the two Asian Champions League stars adorning the club’s badge as a testament to its legacy.
Aiming for Glory
Reflecting on the club’s recent performance, Mosimane noted that Esteghlal has not lifted a trophy since 2022.
He feels a strong sense of responsibility to reignite the winning spirit among the passionate supporters.
“Their last trophy was won in 2022, and we can believe their fans are hungry for glory once again,” he remarked.
He acknowledges the challenge ahead but sees it as a privilege to guide such a storied club.
Current Standing and Future Goals
As of now, Esteghlal is positioned 10th in the league standings, competing among 16 teams with six matches already played.
The club is also focused on making a mark in the AFC Champions League, especially after finishing second in the national league last season.
