In a harrowing incident that shook the community, police body-cam footage revealed the tense moments leading to the arrest of Mark Taylor, a 57-year-old man accused of attempting to murder his wife.
The footage captures the chilling reality of domestic abuse, showcasing a man who seemed utterly unfazed by the severity of his actions, telling officers, “I’m not bothered.”
The Attack
The events unfolded on February 15 when Taylor went on the run with his teenage son after brutally stabbing his wife multiple times.
The attack was so vicious that the kitchen knife he used broke mid-assault, prompting him to grab a second knife and continue the violent episode.
After inflicting serious injuries, he coldly demanded that she give him her phone, claiming he would call for help.
Instead, he ominously stated, “this will be the end of you,” before locking her in their home in Baslow, Derbyshire, and fleeing the scene with their son.
A Desperate Call for Help
Left bleeding and alone, Taylor’s wife made a desperate attempt to call for help by shouting through the letterbox.
In a courageous act, she crawled up the stairs and managed to yell out of a bedroom window, eventually catching the attention of a passerby walking their dog.

Taylor’s wife was rushed to the hospital, suffering from stab wounds to her neck, arm, chest, and stomach.
The Pursuit
Meanwhile, Taylor was on the move, and automatic number plate recognition cameras tracked his vehicle throughout Derbyshire before it crossed into Cheshire.
Later that day, Cheshire Police apprehended him about 60 miles away, with body-cam footage capturing the moment of his arrest.
Even then, Taylor’s demeanor was unsettling, as he casually remarked to the arresting officer, “I’m not bothered, that’s it now, it’s a life sentence.”
The Aftermath
The impact of this brutal attack extended beyond Taylor’s wife.
Their 13-year-old son, who witnessed the violence, anxiously asked officers if his mother was still alive.
Following the trial, Taylor was charged with attempted murder, which he denied but was ultimately found guilty on August 15 at Derby Crown Court.
He was sentenced to 23 years in prison, alongside a five-year extended sentence, and an indefinite restraining order barring any contact with his wife and son.

During sentencing, Judge Martin Hurst expressed the gravity of Taylor’s actions.
He emphasized that Taylor had intentionally sought to murder his wife, stabbing her multiple times with two different knives and taking steps to prevent her from seeking help.
“You made a concerted effort to murder your wife,” the judge stated, detailing how Taylor left her vulnerable, hoping she would die alone.
A Wife’s Heartbreaking Statement
In a poignant statement read to the court, Taylor’s now ex-wife shared the profound impact of the attack.
“I have suffered and our lives have been truly devastated. I cannot return to our home due to the trauma,” she expressed.
She revealed her struggles with severe anxiety and depression, adding that their son experiences flashbacks and fears related to the incident.
He often expresses his pain, saying, “Dad has ruined his life.”
Police Remarks
Following the case, Temporary Detective Constable Amber Holmes of Derbyshire Police commented on the severity of the attack, noting that the victim had endured nearly 40 years of domestic abuse at Taylor’s hands.
“It’s clear from the history and actions of Taylor that he posed a very real threat to his wife,” she stated, expressing relief that the judge recognized this danger by imposing an extended sentence.
