Njabulo Blom Faces Departure from St. Louis City SC as Club Negotiates Loan Transfer Back to Former Team Kaizer Chiefs

It looks like St. Louis City SC and South African midfielder Njabulo Blom are about to part ways.

Under interim coach John Hackworth, Blom hasn’t been getting much playtime, and there’s talk of him returning on loan to his former club, Kaizer Chiefs.

Contract Details and Future Prospects

Blom’s current contract with St. Louis City runs until December, with an option for a two-year extension.

However, it seems unlikely that the club will activate that option.

This opens up a strong possibility for Blom to make a permanent move back to Kaizer Chiefs during the January transfer window.

“We are in discussions with another club right now,” Hackworth mentioned.

A source close to Blom also confirmed that Chiefs and his management team are in contact.

This initial loan move could be beneficial for everyone involved.

Since Bradley Carnell’s departure in July, Blom’s playing time has decreased, and returning to familiar surroundings could give his career a much-needed boost.

Kaizer Chiefs and Blom’s Potential Impact

For Kaizer Chiefs, bringing Blom back would add both depth and experience to their midfield.

This could be especially useful for mentoring rising star Samkelo Zwane, who is also an international youth player.

Blom’s arrival would also offer tactical advantages for Chiefs.

Yusuf Maart could shift into the ‘number eight’ role, while Mduduzi Shabalala or Gaston Sirino could occupy the ‘number 10’ position, creating a versatile and dynamic midfield setup.

Chiefs’ Active Transfer Window

Blom’s return would be a significant addition to Chiefs’ already busy transfer window.

The club has recently signed Fiacre Ntwari, Bongani Sam, Miguel Inacio, Sirino, and Rushwin Dortley, with Bradley Cross potentially joining soon.

All these moves aim to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.

Additionally, Blom could have another chance to showcase his skills to Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

With two senior caps and over seven youth caps, Blom’s return could reignite his international career.

He made his debut on September 6, 2021, in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana, and his last appearance was in a friendly against Eswatini on October 13, 2023.

Since then, he hasn’t been called up again.

What’s Next?

It remains to be seen how this potential move unfolds, but it’s clear that both Blom and Kaizer Chiefs have a lot to gain from this change.
