Arizona Teen Samuel Vaughan Takes Legal Action Against Benson Dentist Over Refusal to Release Extracted Teeth

An Arizona teenager finds himself in a heated dispute with his dentist after a routine tooth extraction turned into a contentious issue over ownership.

Samuel Vaughan, 18, visited Dr. Ryan Barney’s Benson practice to have four teeth removed.

However, what was supposed to be a straightforward procedure took an unexpected turn when Vaughan requested to take the extracted teeth home but was denied by Dr. Barney.

Vaughan expressed his frustration, feeling misled and victimized after leaving the dentist’s office empty-handed.

He was shocked to learn that his teeth had been destroyed post-extraction.

‘I went into the appointment expecting to leave with my extracted teeth, and I was never informed otherwise beforehand,’ Vaughan told My Herald Review via email.

‘Leaving without them left me feeling betrayed.’

Feeling that his rights were violated, Vaughan has filed complaints against Dr. Barney with both the Arizona Dental Board and local authorities, although the police found no grounds for criminal charges.

Dental Practice Standards

Dr. Barney defended his decision, citing health concerns and routine practice protocols.

According to him, retaining extracted teeth could pose health risks due to potential bloodborne pathogens.

‘We adhere to strict standards regarding the handling of extracted teeth,’ Dr. Barney explained.

‘There’s a risk of bloodborne diseases being transmitted, which is why we follow these procedures.’

Legal Threats

Despite Dr. Barney’s explanation, Vaughan remains adamant about pursuing legal action if his complaints are not addressed satisfactorily.

‘These are my teeth, and it’s my blood,’ Vaughan insisted.

‘I have every intention of pursuing a lawsuit.

Justice may not be perfect, but it’s necessary.’
